About the Author: A. David Mills is Emeritus Reader in English, University of London, and a member of the Council of the English Place Name Society and of the Society for Name Studies in Britain and in Ireland. Other publications include A Dictionary of London Place-names (Oxford U. Pr., 2010), Place-names of the Isle of Wight: Their Origins and Meanings (Paul Watkins Pubg., 1996), and The Place-names of Dorset (English Place-name Society, 4 vols., 1977-2010).

Notes: 576 original pages have turned into 1012 in this e-book, due to large font size. A newer 4th edition (ISBNs 978-0199609086, 019960908X) was published in 2011.
